MTS to expand HSPA and LTE wireless service to Piney

Expansion will benefit both the people of Piney and travelers along Highway 12 –

PINEY, MB, August 10, 2015 – (TSX:MBT) MTS, Manitoba’s leading full-service telecommunications provider, today announced that it will expand its HSPA and LTE network to Piney, MB.

“I’m delighted to announce that we will expand wireless services to Piney, MB,” said MTS CEO Jay Forbes. “The Piney expansion adds to the MTS wireless network which now covers 98% of the population in Manitoba.  With the most extensive wireless network in the province, MTS is vital to the health of Manitoba’s economy. MTS services connect Manitobans with friends and families and also to our schools, our jobs, our businesses, our emergency services, and our trade partners. The Manitoba economy truly does run on MTS. This specific expansion benefits both the residents of Piney and the surrounding rural municipality, as well as travelers along Highway 12.”

Also in attendance were representatives of all three levels of government. “I would like to acknowledge local Member of Parliament Ted Falk, Member of the Legislative Assembly Dennis Smook, Reeve Wayne Anderson, and the Manitoba government, all of whom are supportive of our expansion of services in southeastern Manitoba,” Forbes continued.

“Local leaders here are working hard to increase cellular service so hometown businesses, families and young people can succeed in one of Canada’s fastest growing economies,” said provincial Minister of Jobs and the Economy Kevin Chief. “This expansion is an important step that will help make that happen.”

“I am delighted with the decision MTS recently made to deliver cellular services to the Piney area,” said Falk. “This will now give comfort and peace of mind to residents and travelers knowing that they are now connected via cellular service.”

Wayne Anderson, Reeve of the RM of Piney, praised MTS for the expansion: “This is a positive step toward our goal, which is getting full cellular coverage for South-Eastern Manitoba.  We are grateful that MTS is providing this new service to the Piney area.”

More than 1 million Manitobans now have access to MTS’s 4G LTE Wireless Network. With download speeds of up to 150 Mbps, 4G LTE sets the standard in wireless technology. LTE technology complements MTS’s 4G HSPA+ wireless network. For more information about MTS’s 4G LTE Wireless Network, please visit
